Detoxing from Busy

Over the past week or so, Ayden and I have retreated from Marquette to spend time with our family back in the huuuge town of L'Anse. That was extreme sarcasm for those of you unfamiliar with the area. With the fast pace of wedding season and summer classes at Northern Michigan University just coming to a close, I felt we needed to take a few days to detox from our normally busy days. While I've still been working, it's much easier to take breaks and jump in the lake with Ayden back at home. NMU's fall semester starts back up on Monday, and I knew I owed Ayden and I a few pure summer days. Since Ayden's come into my world, I've learned tremendously much about balance. I'm entering my senior year as a biology student. Wedding and senior seasons are still in full swing. I'm an athlete on the NMU Figure Skating Team. I am a photographer for NMU's The North Wind, the campus student-run newspaper. Photography itself takes up well over 40 hours of my week every week. I have to prioritize being a parent in there too!!! My savior is keeping a handwritten planner and making lists constantly to stay on task. Remembering to pencil in the time for fun is crucial! I have always made time to do at least one adventurous thing with Ayden everyday. I strive to build him the empire that my parents raised me to grow up in during my childhood. We've been at least quadrupling our adventures being at home, but also taking more time to curl up to read books together and wrap ourselves in blankets on the porch at night to count falling stars. This breather was much needed and I can see that we're both in more positive mindsets. We'll be ready to rock out our "normal lives" again when we get back!
