The Sarazin Family | In-home Lifestyle
Jillian and Tyler invited me into their home just a couple weeks ago as they welcomed their newest little human, Charlotte, to the world. We started the session with gentler portraits of Charlotte with her big brother, Emmitt, and big sister, Netty, who were such big helpers and ever-so-fun to photograph/play with!
From the bedroom, I followed the family around the house. We originally scheduled a "mini" lifestyle session, but with winter being the driest work season for photographers in Northern Michigan, I couldn't help but linger to capture what I thrive on capturing! The candid. The unposed. The unfiltered real life.
The Sarazin family made my job so easy because they let me simply follow them. When there's all of this instruction for posing and set expectations for the way the photos should absolutely turn out, there's this stress on both sides. The family will do all in their will to attempt to be perfect, and the photographer is anxiously trying meet this standard, gutting the creativity and naturalness of the session. It's true, there's a lot to be said about a good portrait. There's a reason why I, and many other photographers, shoot various styles of sessions. But in general, it's images like these that make that lightbulb switch on in my mind that says, "this is why I do this."
In the end, I usually never want to leave lifestyle sessions. There are so many little details in our moments, even just when we're hanging around the house on an ordinary day, that we take for granted. Those dad hugs when we wipe out while playing. The cat swaying its fluffy tail in your face when it needs attention. The elements of becoming a big sibling, or a parent for a third time. To observe and document that is so intriguing! I'm endlessly thankful to work with families like the Sarazin's.
