Dave + Ashlee | Keweenaw Micro Wedding on Lake Superior
On the perfect September day in the Keweenaw, Dave and Ashlee got ready for their micro wedding at Fresh Coast Cabins in Eagle Harbor. I joked with Dave and Ashlee that we needed to photograph together more often because they apparently attract all of the incredible moods of the Keweenaw. Their engagement session was absolute fire too! For their wedding day, they chose to surround themselves for their day with just their immediate families and their beloved canine companion, Blaize.
After discussing location options for months leading up to their wedding, Dave and Ashlee landed on Esrey Park as their ceremony site, a short jaunt down M26 from the cabins. There was no wedding party, just their dog of honor adorned in a flower collar. Dave stood facing out at the vastness of Lake Superior and saw Ashlee for the first time in her dress as her father escorted her down the rocky coastline. For a unity ceremony, Dave and Ashlee made peanut butter and jelly sandwiches together, sharing a bite of their sandwich together (and saving a bite for Blaize too). Before the ceremony concluded, each family member shared words for the bride and groom.
Before departing for dinner, we took family photos along the beach as well as bride and groom portraits.
On our way to dinner, we stopped at Jacobs Falls in Eagle River. Jacobs Falls is a great stop for portraits if you want an epic Michigan waterfall without taking up too much time or hiking in. In Dave and Ashlee’s case, it was a convenient way to add more variety in terms of location and lighting to their portraits and it took but five extra minutes.
The light began dipping lower as we arrived at the Fitz in Eagle River. We made another quick side quest to the beach and dunes.
They reserved the private dining room at the Fitz and the food was exquisite as always. A dramatic sunset flooded through the windows which prompted everyone to migrate back to the beach for a bit. Toasts and a cake were shared to conclude the evening.
