Casey + Kim | Boho Fall Copper Harbor Wedding
Casey and Kim started dating back in 2007 while they were both in 8th grade. Like any classic romance story, Casey asked Kim to be his girlfriend over MSN messenger… you know, when that was a thing. Hahaha! They both grew up playing hockey and occasionally played against each other! Casey played for the Calumet Hockey Association and Kim played “boys hockey” fo CCJHA. Casey's older brothers would offer him money to hit me during the games, but according to Kim, she was always too fast for him to catch her on ice. They shared their first kiss when they were 13 and 14 years old in locker room 3 of the Calumet Armory.
In April of 2018, Casey suggested they should "catch the sunset.” Kim thought something was up, considering they usually didn’t make plans to “catch the sunset,” so she dressed up a little bit more than she would for their usual walk. They took Dexter, their beloved German shorthair pointer, with them down the road near Kim’s grandparents’ camp on Lake Superior. On the beach afterwards, Casey asked Kim to be his wife.
Casey and Kim wed on a gorgeous September afternoon at Our Lady of the Pines church in Copper Harbor, Michigan, the same church Casey’s parents were married. The men and ladies got ready in separately at Zik’s Cabins before the ceremony.
Katey of k.t. creative assisted me for their wedding and captured some of these quirky shots of the guys scaling the giant chair outside of Zik’s, lol! I love the way she captured Dexter in the mix too!
While Kim and Casey chose not to see each other before the wedding ceremony, Kim decided to have a reveal moment with her dad! I think a reserved moment like this with anyone special in your life is an excellent idea, especially if a first look with your partner isn’t part of your wedding day vision.
The light at the edge of the pines near the church was incredible!!! Also, shoutout to Bobbi at Protea Floral Design for these killer bouquets and floral crowns!
To the ceremony!
Receiving line, family photos, marriage license signing, etc…
Before taking off for photos and other stops, we had to sneak in a few photos with Dexter!
Is it really a party bus if its not a school bus? Just sayin’…
First stop, the Bear Belly in Lac La Belle:
From Lac La Belle, we took a ride across the peninsula to capture mighty Lake Superior from the unique volcanic rock formations in the region:
Casey and Kim’s had their reception in Copper Harbor’s downtown park! It was the perfect place to capture the outdoor, lit-up tent vibe they dreamt of. Super fun fact: we actually bought some of Casey and Kim’s wedding decor for our own wedding two weeks later! My mother-in-law was browsing Facebook marketplace and when she sent me screenshots of the items for sale, I was like, wait… I photographed these before! Hahaha.
Father and bride dance, mother and groom dance…
Behind their reception tent, we snuck away for evening portraits around Copper Harbor’s community garden area for these gems:
Once evening fell, cue the most epic dance party beneath the glow of light strands and the air filled with the sound of everyone singing Blink-182 and Sum 41 at the top of their lungs.
