Adventure: Trip to Madison, Wisconsin
On my St Patty's weekend, I made a day trip down to Madison, Wisconsin. First and foremost, I am on the Northern Michigan University Figure Skating team. Although skating has taken more of a backseat for me personally this crazy semester, I wanted to come down and support my lovely teammates! NMU finished fifth altogether for the competitive season, right behind big colleges with full varsity funding, such as University of Michigan. These ladies have all worked so hard this past season, and I couldn't be more proud of them on and off the ice.
Secondly, I had the opportunity to meet with one of my engaged couples at Kavarna in downtown Green Bay on my way down. If you ever find yourself in the area, Kavarna is a MUST for coffee enthusiasts alike, and amazing food in general! I was so thrilled to be able to meet with my couple, Matt and Katie, on the fly like we had. They are such a fun pair and I'm beyond excited for their wedding on lower harbor in Marquette, Michigan this summer!!! I don't have a photo in this post from our meeting in Kavarna, but it was indeed a big highlight of my day!
My day ended with Madison shenanigans with one of my high school best friends, David. He has been living in the Appleton area for the past year or so, making it the perfect opportunity to snag him on my way down to the skating competition. We take being the peanut butter to the other's jelly to a whole new level. We're so alike in our obsession with words, addiction to coffee, need rock out to Paramore, and of course, our abrupt spontaneity. Ever since we drew maps to show every alternate route each other's house in case of a best friend emergency, we were fated friends until the end. He's personally already been to Madison on a few accounts, but it was an entirely new scene for me. I highly recommend moseying through the streets if given the opportunity! Madison is a very "cute" city, if you will. There's an abundance of cafes and even with drunk people crawling from bar to bar for St. Patty's, it was very clean. I was very excited that we stumbled upon Colectivo Coffee during our adventure. Their main location is in Milwaukee, where they roast their own beans. In Marquette, Third Street Bagel uses their roasts! It was an honor to step into a branch of the real deal. I brought David out for sushi... and then remembered he hates seafood. Score on three rolls to myself? I'm a horrible friend. When we rolled back into Appleton, we debated for at least 15 minutes whether or not we should get pizza... like... driving around a block multiple times and staring at the pizza place. Pizza won, and the slices were bigger than our heads. Best. Conclusion. Ever.
I am working on compiling a post of my trip to Arizona and Nevada soon, be on the lookout!
