Sweat for ALS
For those of you who don't know, I am a biologist-in-training as well as a photographer. Not only do I care deeply about preserving the beauty from our souls through still frames, I care incredibly much about the sacredness of the human body, it's functionality, it's capabilities, and it's peculiarities.
ALS, or amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, is a neurodegenerative disease that interferes with nerve cells in the central nervous system, being your brain and spinal cord. Ultimately, this disease is progressive and results in loss of muscle control due to hardening of essential nerves that leads to prevention of proper signaling to muscles. The muscles therefore atrophy, and can affect anything from voluntary movements such as walking or brushing your teeth, to vital involuntary movements as basic as breathing air.
The kicker: There is no known cure.
May is ALS Awareness Month, and my dear friends at Bird on a Perch Pilates Studio in Marquette are hosting an ALS fundraiser that includes a donation-based mat pilates class on May 28th from 11:30 am - 12:30 pm, as well as a silent auction with all proceeds going towards ALS. I will be donating a free photo session of choice (excluding weddings) to the silent auction to support the cause. Interested in sweating for ALS?
