Connor and Kara scrambled up conglomerate crests, danced on the expansive shoreline of the Great Sand Bay, and cradled each other in the mist of a waterfall to make their session come to life.
While some of my favorite humans were in the UP recently for a friend’s wedding, we took to Tourist Park in Marquette for maternity photos. We revisited a location we used for engagement photos a few years prior. Molly kept the vibe simple with a long-sleeved lace shirt and jean overalls. The goal was just enough photos to commerorate this chapter before baby.
My grandparents entertained my idea to make creative portraits of them in the phlox at golden hour this spring. This is a big year for them; my grandpa turned 91, my grandma turned 90, and soon they’ll be celebrating their 70th wedding anniversary.
Jacob and Abbey’s steps trace back to winding wooded paths. They were both avid runners and teammates for their high school cross country team. By the time of their senior prom, they decided on togetherness. In years to come, they would move together to the Motor City, where they forged their careers and have since spent time exploring the urban scenes and pockets of nature in which we centered their engagement session around.

The light was very bright at 3pm but we made due using Cannon’s dad’s old truck around the parking structures of Houghton, MI.
Keith and Kelley said their vows on a crisp autumn morning at the historic Marquette County Courthouse alongside their children and parents. The fall foliage was at peak and a little rain didn’t slow them down.

Originally, Brittany and Patrick would’ve been saying I do on a rooftop in Kalamazoo this Saturday, but the COVID-19 pandemic forced a change of plans as they look ahead to the early summer of 2021 now. To honor what would’ve been their wedding week, I’m sharing their Marquette-themed engagement session to showcase what they love to do together: hang out on Lake Superior, sip brews at Ore Dock Brewing Co, climb Sugarloaf, enjoy the best food, and hang around the downtown in general!
Once introduced, Mike proceeded to teach Megan how to toast the perfect marshmallow. Flash forward years later and they settled in a Chicago apartment with their beloved pup, Kai. They went on 4th of July getaway to Eagle Harbor, Michigan, where Mike has spent much of his summers growing up. He proposed to Megan along the Great Sand Bay while they toasted s’mores over a bonfire on the beach at sunset. Their July wedding brought them back to Eagle Harbor yet again, where all of their family and guests prepared in quaint cottages near the conglomerate shores of Lake Superior.
Cassidy and CJ went to a Red Wings hockey game in Detroit on November 24th, 2018. Both have always been major Red Wings fans and actually met playing men’s league hockey in Iron River, Michigan! Their engagement session included their beloved pups, braving the cold, late fall weather of Northern Michigan, and of course, the ice rink.
Lena and Justin drove to the Gogebic County courthouse on snowy, late December morning. Their fat tire bikes were loaded in the back of their truck, and their two pups, Debo and Chico, waited with tails wagging in the backseat. For Lena and Justin, eloping was an easy decision for them - partly romantic, but also logistics. With Lena being a teacher, Christmas vacation was the perfect time to elope and to escape on a little getaway together.
On a gorgeous September afternoon in Copper Harbor, Casey and Kim wed at Our Lady of the Pines church - the same church Casey’s parents were married years before! Their wedding day took the couple climbing on the rocky shores of Lake Superior and to the docks of Lac La Belle, then ended under string lights and the vast starry sky of Michigan’s Keweenaw Peninsula.
Impending rain and snow clouds loomed across the autumn horizon as Dylan and Amber finished getting ready at camp for their engagement photos. Occasionally, we were met with the interruption of light bursts of cold rain, but Dylan and Amber remained cozied up with each other and laughed it off. This incredible couple exchanges vows this August at camp!
With their love story beginning at church, Hannah and Ethan united their souls in the presence of God at the South Range Apostolic Church in late November. While snow isn’t uncommon in Upper Michigan’s autumn, they were greeted with the heaviest snowstorm of the season that came in time for Thanksgiving too.
Ethan and Hannah took a trip to family friend’s expansive sunflower field near Mass City. Despite it being rather bright upon arrival, the fields were still directly out of a dream! In the end, they wound up at Hannah’s family’s farm in Pelkie, where they went wandering through fields, climbing on hay bales, and had a few goat and cow photobombers.
On a cool, sunny October afternoon, Amanda and Brandon celebrated their union in their backyard with just their close family and friends. The maple canopy began burning bright red and orange above their homemade arbor of ash, as if the trees knew to time their changing leaves for their day despite most other surrounding trees still holding their green. This couple is near and dear to me, and I was honored to be able to both stand as a bridesmaid and photograph their love story shenanigans!

Brandon and Amanda, two of our dear friends, invited me to their new home in Midland, Michigan. They took their beloved "grocery getter” for a spin, cleaned up their lawn for their backyard wedding to be, and worked on their new hardwood floors HGTV-style - all while having fun and being unapologetically themselves!
